Congratulations to Pepperdine Caruso Law alumna Katie Zacharia on her appointment as White House press secretary!

A graduate of both Pepperdine University University’s Seaver College and Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, Katie is a valued member of our Dean’s Council. We are proud to see her take on this important role in public service and represent the Pepperdine community on a national stage.

Dean Paul Caron shared his congratulations and support for Katie as she begins this new chapter: “Congratulations to Katie Zacharia on her appointment as White House press secretary. I will be praying for Katie as she takes on such an important public service role.”

An unforgettable day in the courtroom for Pepperdine Caruso Law’s student advocates.

On September 25, second-year students Alyssa Schmidt and Sean Grey argued a Fourth Amendment case before U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., Judge Allison Jones Rushing of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and Judge Andrew Oldham of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

After a closely contested final round, Schmidt was named the 2026 Armand Arabian Advocacy Tournament champion. Congratulations to Alyssa and Sean on an impressive demonstration of preparation, poise, and advocacy.

On September 26, our community gathered for the annual Law Dinner to celebrate 57 years of Caruso Law and a year marked by nine all-time highs, including a No. 46 U.S. News ranking, a 91% bar pass rate, and 100% full-credit job placement.

The evening featured remarks from Dean Paul Caron and President Jim Gash, recognition of our students and faculty, and a conversation with U.S. Supreme
Court Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., Judge Andrew Oldham of the Fifth Circuit, and Judge Allison Rushing of the Fourth Circuit on law, conviction, and greater purpose.

Great lawyers don’t just understand the law. They understand business, innovation, and how to build what comes next. The Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law helps Caruso Law students develop that perspective by connecting legal education with entrepreneurship, business, and emerging industries.

On September 23, the Palmer Center welcomed alumnus James Moloney (JD ’94), director of the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance, for a fireside chat with more than 75 students and alumni. Moloney shared his career journey and insights into capital markets, joined by leading practitioners from firms including Goodwin, Glaser Weil, Skadden, and Chevron.

Opportunities like these give future lawyers a closer look at the business side of law and the many paths a legal career can take.

Pepperdine Caruso Law alumna and professor Britney Lane Kubisch ’12 reflects on the professors who shaped her path, from encouraging her to pursue federal clerkships to showing up for her during the loss of her mother. For Kubisch, living “For Greater Purpose” means going beyond what is required to care for others, invest in their lives, and show Christ’s love through the small acts that can make a lasting difference.

Pepperdine Caruso Law welcomed barristers-in-training from the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in London for the 2026 Middle Temple Moot Court Competition.

The competition brought together students from Pepperdine and Middle Temple for an exchange focused on courtroom advocacy, with distinguished English barrister Andrew Hochhauser KC serving as a competition judge and sharing insights on trial strategy and advocacy.
