Join us on September 24th for our Growing Together Workshop for an evening of gardening and landscaping questions! Dr. Cindy Haynes, ISU Consumer Horticulture Extension Specialist will be speaking about the do's and don'ts of fall gardening and landscaping.

Tips on how to divide your bearded irises! ⬇️

If your bearded iris clumps are blooming poorly or becoming crowded, August is a great time to divide and transplant them.

1. carefully dig up with a spade
2. cut foliage back to 1/3 height
3. wash soil off the rhizomes
4. cut rhizomes apart with sharp knife
5. discard leafless and diseased or insect-damaged rhizomes
6. plant!

Divided irises don’t bloom as much the following spring, but should be in full bloom by their second year. Get all the details here: https://go.iastate.edu/OMH5YO

We've spotted some black-eyed Susan beginning to bloom, which means it's time for our annual Susan Confusion post! Here are some tips on how to differentiate from some of the more common varieties of black- and brown-eyed Susans that you typically see in gardens, along roadsides and in meadows and prairies this time of year.

✨ Daylily Day Trip ✨
What a wonderful weekend! Our Master Gardeners spent the day visiting a beautiful private daylily collection owned by one of our members before heading to Hillsdale Lily Garden for Lily Fest 6.0. From unique colors to stunning forms, we saw countless daylily varieties. Do you have a favorite daylily? 🌸🌿☀️
