We have some tiny visitors at the office. These monarch larva will continue eating milkweed until they have grown 2000 times their size. They will then find a spot and hang upside down in a “J” shape before forming a chrysalis. In 10-14 days, we will have beautiful monarch butterflies to release in the wild, feed on nectar and fly to Mexico for the winter. What a beautiful journey! Help us save the monarchs from becoming endangered! Plant pesticide free native milkweed & nectar plants to help! Call the office at (606) 598-2789 for more information on what you can do to help.

Helping Pollinators Thrive in Clay County. This season, pollinator-friendly plants and Monarch Waystations have been established in several locations throughout Clay County to help create and enhance habitat for monarch butterflies, bees, and other important pollinators. These colorful plantings provide essential food sources and shelter while supporting the pollination of flowers, gardens, and crops.

These projects are helping beautify our communities while making a positive impact on local wildlife. By planting native flowers and creating pollinator habitats, Clay County residents are helping ensure that monarchs and other pollinators have the resources they need to thrive for generations to come.

Interested in creating your own pollinator-friendly space? Contact the Clay County Extension Office to learn more about pollinator plants and habitat projects. Together, we can continue making Clay County a welcoming place for pollinators!
