Kansas Center for Agricultural Resources and the Environment KCARE works to develop and deliver knowledge that helps to balance the utilization of natural resources in Kansas with the protection of those resources.🌻

KCARE works collaboratively with stakeholders to build bridges and create partnerships among faculty at Kansas State University, researchers and specialists working for K-State Research and Extension, industry experts, landowners and farmers, state agencies, and more. These partnerships enhance research, extension, and teaching activities pertaining to agriculture-related environmental issues. Our

projects examine water management issues, water quality, prairie ecosystem maintenance, fertilizer research and more.

K-State Watershed Specialists joined the K-State Purebred Beef Unit today at Cedar Creek Ranch just north of Manhattan. The team is troubleshooting why the spring tank doesn’t seem to keep a constant flow coming from the spring box. It’s vital for the University as well as Ranchers on these hot summer days to have constant water supplies for cattle.

Every day is a perfect day to learn about water, but today was especially grand to be with our WRAPS friends and partners from the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment at Tuttle Creek Reservoir. Along with many others, we spent our afternoon discussing the issue of sedimentation: we know that sediment impacts most of our Kansas reservoirs, which are essential for communities' water supply and flood abatement. Water injection dredging here at Tuttle is an opportunity to explore the efficacy of this new(ish) technology and how it can impact our water quality. Thankful for the opportunity to see it up close and in person!
