A new tradition begins on Sunday, December 6 as we present a concert of Renaissance holiday cheer in the grand atrium of our very own castle, Nichols Hall!

Seating will be limited and available with pay-what-you-can tickets. Watch for the ticket sales to start in November at k-state.edu/mtd/tickets

Join us this Sunday, October 11, at 7:30pm in All Faiths Chapel!

The K-State Early-Music Ensembles will put audiences in the shoes of the millions of pilgrims who made the arduous journey to Santiago de Compostela. Follow the fantastical journey of a poet and songwriter as he undertakes “The Way of St. James” from Bavaria, across the alps through Italy, Switzerland, and France and finally to Spain, and enjoy pilgrim hymns, songs, dances, and other music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance along the way.

A pre-concert talk from Prof. David Simmons Wood, Director of Early-Music Ensembles, will be given at 6:45pm in All Faiths Chapel.

A pilgrimage to a holy site held the hope of miraculous recovery from all manner of illness and infirmary. Many would set out for healing, but fewer would return.

The typical pilgrim in the Middle Ages would set out with a simple robe, a wide-brimmed sun hat, a walking staff, a satchel, a water gourd, two pairs of shoes, and as one song says:

“he mustn’t go out without a cloak,
well lined with leather;
so that whether it snows or rains or the wind blows
the air doesn’t dampen him.”
