Music for Elementary Teachers (MUSIC205) teaches future elementary school teachers how to incorporate music into their everyday teaching. Students learn to teach songs, body percussion, choreography/movement, guided listening, and even learn how to play the ukulele! As part of the course, students meet in a weekly lab for the practical application of what they are learning, like playing the ukulele and teaching music.

Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) in Production prepares students to develop theatrical works for young audiences. This course (THEATRE503) is offered in connection with K-State's Applied Learning Experiences (ALE) incentives grant. Through this support, the class created the Wildcat Mobile Theatre Unit which will tour TYA productions to schools late this semester, presenting performances of 2 one-act plays for public school audiences in the area.

TYA is a perfect example of how MTD offers students practical field experience, taking what is learned in class directly to communities.

Pictured here: students teach each other theatre games that can be used in the secondary classroom. These games inform the development of the productions.

Dorothy Glick Maglione, Assistant Professor of Musicology published "Welcome to America: Italian Emigrants and Concerts at Ellis Island," in the latest issue of "Chronica Mundi."

The publication explores the experience of detained women as well as a musicological analysis of concerts at the Ellis Island Immigration Station (open 1892 to 1954). Maglione offers the detention of Boston Civic Opera Company's leading Italian soprano Clara Jacobo in September 1925 as a case study of one Italian woman's experience as an emigrant during this period of mass migration.
