Get to know K-State's new Director of Bands, Dr. Alex Wimmer!

Did you know that he is from Nebraska and earned his master's and PhD from K-State? Did you know he fell in love with band in 8th grade and started thinking of teaching it when he was in high school?

Environmental science student Lauren Seybold designed a board game that turns climate science into a wildflower adventure, providing a new way to explore climate change and connect it to the prairie.

In the game, called LeafSpan, players take on the role of native Kansas wildflowers trying to survive long enough to produce seeds. They encounter drought, competition and other challenges expected as Kansas becomes warmer and drier.

Several youth and K-State applied learning experiences led Lauren to this moment, and next spring, she'll study environmental science in Costa Rica and continue exploring the intersection of science and education.

K-State students spent 10 days in Berlin, Germany, exploring the country's memory culture through historic sites, memorials and conversations about how Germany remembers its past. Some followed it up with a 4-week German language program at the Institute for German Language and Culture in Wittenberg.

"The improvements on my skills as a translator and the history I learned really enlightened me on things I previously could not understand," said one student.

"I suppose I was hardest hit by Checkpoint Charlie; I hope I have never taken any of my freedoms for granted," said another student.
