History and leadership walked the same ground this weekend at Gettysburg National Military Park!

Marietta College LEAD and History students and faculty spent two days on the battlefield, tracing decisions from the 1863 Civil War battle and talking through what they mean for leaders today.

Huge thanks to the generous donors who funded the trip because they believe history still teaches us how to lead. Grateful to travel and learn with Professors Brandon Downing and Jason Nulton and a great crew of students.

Our LEAD 210 teacher leaders led a standing-room town hall on Wednesday for Ohio's Fair School Funding formula — and the community showed up!

Our students brought together a powerhouse panel: Former Rep. John Patterson (co-sponsor of the Fair School Funding legislation), Ali Smith (Policy Matters Ohio)
Dan Greenberg (VP, Ohio Education Association),
Jeffrey Greenley (Superintendent, Belpre City Schools), &
Lance Erlwein (Treasurer, Belpre City Schools).

More than 50 people joined in person and online for a clear, honest conversation about how Ohio funds its schools, and Katelyn Jackson from Parents United closed the night with a call to action.

We are so proud! These developing teacher leaders are not waiting to step up -- they are doing it now, in Belpre and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Conversations For Healthy Communities in our McDonough Auditorium Thursday night! Seeing students, clinicians, nonprofits, and neighbors sit down together to talk honestly about healthcare in Appalachian Ohio was exactly why we host this event. Huge thanks to our panelists and community partners for lending your expertise, and to our students for sharing their ACRI project work with such care and clarity. This is what community health looks like!
