Northern Michigan University is a four-year public university located in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Founded in 1899, NMU has a long-standing tradition of providing exceptional education and being an integral part of the Marquette community. With over 180 degree programs, a student population of approximately 7,200 students, and a variety of notable accolades, Northern is a distinctive and innovative institution of higher education. The majors most popular among students include Art & Design, Biology, Criminal Justice, Education and Nursing. Northern has many award-winning leadership programs like Superior Edge and the Student Leadership Fellowship Program (SLFP). Superior Edge focuses on service through its four edges: citizenship, diversity, leadership and real world experience. SLFP is a nationally recognized program committed to developing competent, ethical, and community-centered leaders. Northern strives to make education accessible to everyone by keeping our tuition the second lowest in the state. Our students receive on average, a financial aid package of $12,265 each year in grants, scholarships and loans.

🎓 Big news for local students and adult learners!

Northern Michigan University and Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College have partnered to create a seamless transfer pathway to a bachelor’s degree.

Students who complete an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at KBOCC can now transfer directly into NMU’s Bachelor’s Degree in Management program without losing hard-earned credits.

A new era is beginning at Northern Michigan University! 🎓✨

We’re excited to celebrate Dr. Chris Olsen's presidential investiture as NMU's 19th president. We invite our alumni, students, faculty, and Marquette community partners to join us for a week of community, service, and celebration. 💚💛

Events include:
Saturday, Sept 26: Civil War Veteran Graves Cleaning | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Ishpeming Cemetery

Monday, Sept 28: Community Ice Cream Social | 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM | Northern Center Lawn

Monday, Sept 28: National Parks & Climate Change Presentation | 7:00 PM | Northern Center (Peninsula II)
