Meet Stephen Markley, one of the writer/creators of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building with Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. Markley, a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, has appeared on the Late Show with Seth Meyers; his sci-fi novel The Deluge earned rave reviews from writers like Stephen King. How does he balance it all? How do you get into writing for the screen? Come ask Markley that and more! He'll be here via the magic of Zoom, Tues. Oct. 6 at noon in the Black Box (FA 112). Copresented by the Creative Writing and Entertainment and Theatre Arts Programs.

Today (September 11, 2026) kicks off our Random Act of Kindness campaign. As we prepare for our production of "Come From Away", we're taking a tip from our friends in Gander, Newfoundland, and we're doing acts of kindness...just because we should, (9/11/26-11/1/26 and beyond, hopefully).

Our first act of kindness was delivering 2 dozen donuts to first responders at the Marshall Police Department.

Not sure how to participate? Just do something nice for someone. It doesn't have to cost money and the feeling is not for sale. Just lend a hand. There's some suggestions below or do your own nice thing.

Be on the lookout for an opportunity to do something nice in your community. Feel free to post your acts in the comments...or keep them to yourself. Either way is ok with us.

Our SMSU production of "Come From Away" runs October 28-November 1. All performances are free to First Responders. Thanks for your service.
