Let's continue the fun with flags!🇺🇦🇲🇦🇲🇽🇺🇳

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members are all invited to GUESS THE NUMBER OF FLAGS on the rolling rack behind CGE staff member, Albrianna, for the chance to win a Maryville College branded travel water bottle!

Comment your answer and the person or people who accurately guess the number (or the closest guess to the correct answer) will win! We will reach out directly to the winner and reveal both the winner and the answer in a public post on Monday, June 8 at noon!

Let’s see those guesses! 👀

🚧 Traffic Notice for Monday 5/18 🚧

Beginning Monday, May 18, a new traffic pattern will be in place near the terminal and garage area due to ongoing roadway improvements and construction activity. The northbound US 129 on-ramp will be temporarily closed, and detour routes will be in place.

⚠️ This change will only impact travelers leaving the airport area and heading to Knoxville.

➡️ Northbound US 129 traffic should follow the posted detour via Hunt Rd and Tyson Blvd.
➡️ Drivers exiting at Exit 15 should bear left to East Hunt Rd as marked.
➡️ Turn left and then take the Northbound US 129 Ramp.
➡️ Access to the terminal, garage, hotel, and parking lots will remain open throughout construction.

Please watch for signage, slow down in work zones, and allow extra travel time. Thank you for your patience as these improvements continue.

Congratulations to the eight artists whose works are currently on display at Maryville College. We extend the invitation to the local community to stop in to view during the shared hours of operation.

One of the artists featured, Myka, regularly engages with our on-campus cultural programming, and we are thrilled to see the creative direction and inspiration that led to such impactful works of art!

Original post:

Ally “Myka” Roberts ’26, Design major, “The Visual Language of Kanji” (posters/calligraphy)

“As someone who experiences the world visually and intensely, I found myself connecting to these characters beyond the language of Japanese, sensing weight in 日 (sun), restlessness in 心 (heart) and barely contained chaos in 愛 (love), each one feeling like its own small universe. My thesis became an exploration of what makes these characters themselves; how far they can be stretched, distorted, broken or rebuilt before losing recognition, and whether someone who can’t read them can still understand them through form alone,” Roberts said.

Last Thursday, the Center for Global Engagement held the Global Engagement Reception, a fun-filled evening reflecting upon the memories we have made and celebrating all that we have accomplished within academic year 2025-26.

At the event, we enjoyed an authentic Mediterranean cuisine provided by a locally owned, nationally recognized Yassin's Falafel House. This dinner was followed by an awards and sashing ceremony recognizing students who have had global experiences either at or through Maryville College, including a special recognition of the six Class of 2026 graduates who have earned their Global+ Certificate in addition to their studies in a variety of academic fields.

We concluded the event with a recognition of community partners who have supported the Center for Global Engagement’s mission to integrate diverse global perspectives into the fabric of campus life and curriculum at Maryville College. We are so thankful to New Providence Presbyterian Church as well as the Asian Culture Center of Tennessee (Knox Asian Festival) for their partnership and support this past academic year.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and/or partnered with the Center for Global Engagement and our two globally-focused student organizations, Study Abroad Ambassadors (Maryville College Scots Abroad) and GCO: Global Citizenship Organization. This academic year has been an adventure for the books!

Yesterday, Drs. Irvine and Sherman hosted Part 2 of 'Iran in Context.' This event created an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to engage in an education-based conversation around religion in relation to current world events.

Attendees were asked to share their opinion on how religious they think the Iran conflict is. Drs. Irvine and Sherman then deepened the discussion by providing religious context that could support, contradict, or complicate that understanding.

Quickly, attendees realized that while there is no clear "right" answer in such a multifaceted situation, more context lends to a better informed understanding of the world and our responsibility as globally conscious citizens. Be on the lookout for more opportunities to get ✈️🌎
