Authentic Prosciutto di Parma is one of Italy’s most celebrated cured meats, with a history dating back more than 2,000 years to the Roman era, the climate around the city of Parma was recognized as ideal for preserving pork through natural curing. Made from specially selected pigs raised in designated regions of Italy, Prosciutto di Parma is produced using only pork and sea salt, then aged for a minimum of 14 months—though many are matured for 24 months or longer to develop greater complexity and sweetness. Its authenticity is protected by the European Union’s Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, known in Italy as Denominazione di Origine Protetta (DOP), which guarantees that every stage of production, from curing to aging, takes place within the Parma production zone according to strict traditional methods. The iconic five-pointed Ducal Crown branded on each ham serves as a mark of quality and authenticity, ensuring consumers receive a product that reflects the heritage, craftsmanship, and regional identity that have defined Prosciutto di Parma for centuries.
