For Reece Olcott, a love of hunting sparked a journey that led to collegiate competition in both archery and trap shooting at Mayville State.

The Detroit Lakes, Minn., native grew up enjoying the outdoors and wanted to improve his shooting skills for hunting. Today, he’s a dual-sport athlete, archery team captain, and an example of how dedication and consistency can open unexpected doors.

Whether he’s on the range, in the classroom, or outdoors with family and friends, Reece continues to embrace patience, focus, and perseverance, values that have guided him from the beginning.

Marketplace for Kids Education Day

At Mayville State University, we believe learning extends far beyond the classroom. That’s why we’re proud to host Marketplace for Kids Education Day on October 19, 2026.

Area students in grades 3-8 will spend the day exploring careers, building leadership skills, learning about entrepreneurship, and participating in hands-on educational experiences designed to spark curiosity and inspire future success. We look forward to welcoming these young learners to campus and helping them imagine what’s possible.

We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Mary Trudeau on her retirement from Mayville State University after 26 years of dedicated service.

Throughout her career, Mary has served in a variety of roles, including mailroom manager, executive assistant in Academic Affairs, and executive assistant to the president. Along the way, she became a trusted colleague, campus leader, and friend to many. Her dedication to Mayville State and the countless ways she has supported students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the university have made a lasting difference.

Thank you, Mary, for your years of service and commitment to the Mayville State family. Congratulations on your well-earned retirement!

A big thank you to Sergeant Gamradt and Officer Cassandro of the Fargo Police Department for spending the day with our Criminal Justice students on September 17!

Experiences like these give students a firsthand look at careers in law enforcement while connecting classroom learning to real-world situations. At Mayville State, our Criminal Justice students learn from professionals, build valuable connections, and gain practical insights that help prepare them for rewarding careers in the field.

The finish line is getting closer in the Old Main renovation project!

Recent progress includes installation of flooring, which is nearing completion in the basement, while work with acoustical panels and wood veneer finishes continues in the theater. Punch list work is underway on the first, second, third, and fourth floors. Terrazzo work also continues in the main foyer as finishing touches are added throughout the building.

Each day brings us one step closer to welcoming students, faculty, staff, and visitors into this beautifully transformed historic landmark.

Support the Mums for Matt fundraiser and help ease the burden of expenses for the Donovan family as Matt Donovan remains hospitalized following a serious injury sustained in the Mayville State football game on September 19.

Large plants are $30, and medium plants are $25.

They may be purchased at the Mayville State Lewy Lee Fieldhouse from September 28 through October 2 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Every purchase makes a difference, and 100% of proceeds will go directly to Matt and his family.
