The McCook Community College golf team placed third Friday to finish up the two-day Northeastern Junior College tournament at Riverview Golf Club.

On Monday, MCC will participate in the two-day Nebraska Intercollegiate Tournament. This year that is held at Centura Hills Golf Club at Cairo.

The MCC volleyball team took Western Nebraska to five sets Wednesday but dropped the match in a battle between two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in Region IX South.

Western Nebraska won 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21 and 15-13.

MCC falls to 12-11 and 5-1. On Friday the Lady Indians will host the other unbeaten team in the south as No. 19 Northeastern Junior College comes to town. The Plainswomen are 5-0 in the south and 16-6 overall.

For the second-straight week McCook Community College freshman Relebohile Phamotse (Maseru, Lesotho) has been named the Region IX South offensive player of the week.

For Week No. 6 (Sept. 21-27) in the Region IX schedule, Phamotse had 56 kills in three matches along with 21 digs, four assist blocks, one solo block and five service aces. She helped power the Lady Indians to a 3-0 week with a 3-1 win at North Platte, followed by a 3-1 win over Lamar Friday and a 3-0 win over Southeast Community College Saturday.

Among Region IX South players, Phamotse leads all players with a .333 hitting percentage, is second in kills per set with 3.40, and eighth in total kills with 177.

This week MCC heads to Western Nebraska Wednesday for a match against Western Nebraska, (4-0 in the south standings and 13-10 overall). On Friday, MCC will be home to host No. 19 Northeastern Junior College (4-0, 15-6) at 6 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

The Lady Indian Volleyball team improved to 5-0 in Region IX with a 3-0 sweep over Southeast Community College Saturday in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

MCC won 25-14, 25-9 and 25-17 to complete a weekend winning six of seven sets against Region IX South teams.

The Lady Indians will play the other two unbeaten teams in the south region this week. On Wednesday MCC travels to Scottsbluff for a 7 p.m. match with Western Nebraska (3-0, 12-10).

On Friday MCC will be back home to face No. 19 Northeastern Junior College (3-0, 14-6) in a 6 p.m. match at the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
