Today's Internship Spotlight features Davis Rody!

Davis spent the summer with Nissan Motor Corporation as a Stamping Current Model Engineering Intern at the company's North America Manufacturing Headquarters in Smyrna, Tennessee. During his internship, Davis supported the automotive stamping operations through process improvement, problem-solving, and quality control while also gaining experience with different manufacturing processes.

The highlight of Davis' internship came during a plant shutdown, when he had the opportunity to climb inside one of Nissan's XL presses to support the improvement of a press destacker's reliability. He was able to troubleshoot the pneumatic air knife system, identify airflow restrictions, and develop a corrective solution to improve aluminum blank separation to reduce press downtime.

Back on campus this fall, Davis is balancing his engineering coursework with his role as a student athlete in his fourth year on the Messiah men's soccer team. He shared, "Being part of the team has been such a blessing. Beyond the many relationships I have been able to gain, being on the team has strengthened my leadership, team work, and time management skills, which have all had a direct impact in my engineering coursework and internship."

Addie, a Biomedical Engineering major, has been completing research with Dr. Farris to further develop a wearable device for athletes.

She shared the following about her work:

"This summer, I have been developing software and testing a device that tracks an athlete’s workload to aid in recovery from injuries. The device attaches to the athlete’s sneaker and as it tracks the steps the athlete takes, it simultaneously tracks the impact of the step and performs calculations to ensure the athlete stays within the daily allowable use limit. The recorded data is sent to an app on the user’s phone where information about recovery is tracked, better equipping trainers to treat patients." Addie also reflected that it has been both exciting and challenging to develop a medical device that has never been designed before.

Electrical Engineering student Jeron Zimmerman completed his internship at Consolidated Engineers in Wyomissing this summer!

His work has been focused on lighting and power design for buildings, primarily schools. The highlight of his experience as been designing the lighting for a new academic building which provided him with valuable insights and experience.

📣Calling all ENGINEERING students!

Fellowship with engineering students across all class years, faculty, and staff as we kick off the new academic year together. The agenda will include dinner, words of encouragement from two of our seniors, and student-led worship.

Mechanical Engineering senior Nathan Kovalcik is wrapping up his summer internship with The MIL Corporation where he is working for the SPN-41B and SPN-35C precision approach landing systems that sit on the Navy's CVN carriers and LHA ships. These systems use radio frequency transmitting to help pilots land aircrafts safely on ships while at sea.

In his role, Nathan has been:
- redesigning/replacing subassemblies, ensuring new parts meet mechanical specs and DOD standards
- making redline edits on engineering drawings for parts needing change and completing engineering change orders to initiate the change
- shadowing engineers doing integration and testing new system builds before they get sent to ships

Nathan's highlight has been the opportunity to work on projects that protect and take care of active service members.

Meet Victoria Burgos!

When asked about her summer internship, she wrote:

"This summer I have been working at Sight & Sound as an Automation and Effects intern! I have had the opportunity to be a part of various projects for future and current shows. The projects have involved designing a PCB, programming, building a testing rig, and using CAD to design part of a prop that will be 3D printed and used in a show.

"As a mechanical engineering student with a robotics minor, this internship has allowed me to use what I have learned in my classes, such as circuits, programming, and Collab, but also expand and learn more about more specific applications.

"The highlight of my internship has been learning from and working with the team at Sight & Sound. I have gained so much from the few months here and am so thankful!"

Thank you Sight & Sound Theatres for investing in the next generation of engineers and providing students with meaningful, hands-on opportunities!
