What’s currently on our faculty's reading list?

This week, Dr. Tyneisha Douglas is recommending the book Sacred Rest by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith.

In Sacred Rest, Dalton-Smith explores the different types of rest we need to thrive and challenges the idea that exhaustion can be solved by sleep alone. It's a thoughtful read for anyone looking to better understand burnout, renewal, and overall well-being.

✨ What ways are you finding rest this semester? Share in the comments!

Over the past few days, students had the opportunity to engage with Messiah University's MSW Program through both the Graduate Fair and our MSW Learning Event. From exploring graduate education opportunities to connecting with faculty and fellow students, these events highlighted the many ways social workers continue to learn, grow, and support one another throughout their professional journeys.

A special highlight was welcoming MSW Program Director Dr. Stacey Barker to campus, while MSW faculty members joined virtually to connect with students, answer questions, and share their experiences in the field.

Whether considering graduate education or simply learning more about the profession, students were able to gain insight into the impact and possibilities of advanced social work practice.

From a Field Placement to a Community Impact

What started as an internship project at New Hope Ministries has grown into something much bigger.

During her MSW field placement, Makayla became aware of the challenges surrounding period poverty and the barriers individuals and families face when accessing menstrual hygiene products. She developed the Period Project to provide free menstrual hygiene products while also creating educational materials and resources surrounding menstrual health.

The project has now received $3,000 from TFEC’s Gail Deimler Charitable Fund, allowing the Period Project to continue and expand its impact in the community.

But the project is about more than providing pads and tampons. It’s about increasing access to information, connecting people with resources, and creating space for conversations around menstrual health and a topic that can still carry stigma.

This is social work in action: identifying a need, understanding the systems behind it, and finding ways to create meaningful change.

We’re proud to see the work of our MSW students make an impact far beyond the classroom.
