Today our university community recognizes Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and invites us to reflect on freedom, justice and hope for the future. Learn more about Juneteenth by visiting Messiah’s resource page: messiah.edu/Juneteenth.

Pictured is the Al Edwards Monument in Galveston, Texas, honoring civil rights leader and former Texas State Representative Al Edwards, whose advocacy helped establish Juneteenth as an official state holiday and later contributed to its national recognition.
