SOE alumnus Tyler Andrews set a record time for climbing Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, as recently covered by The Boston Globe. Training and preparing for this moment for nearly six years, Andrews beat the the record by an hour and one minute.

“The Everest speed record had stood since 2003. Twenty-three years is a long time. I thought the right athlete with the right preparation and the right conditions could break it meaningfully, not just nibble at it. That felt like a project worth dedicating years to," Andrews said in the article. Read more (paywall link): https://bit.ly/4vsnEHK

Similar to the West Coast, the Central and Eastern United States experience seismic activity. Although seismic activity in these regions rarely reaches an intensity that can be felt by humans, smaller earthquakes do occur and can still damage infrastructure that is less adapted to seismic events.

Tufts Ph.D. student Elise Meyer won a Student Presentation Award at the Seismological Society of America (SSA) annual meeting for her presentation on how to better map seismology throughout the eastern half of the United States. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3PIyo5g
