🌱 One seed, an endless cycle — that’s the idea behind UCJC’s Seed Library.

This week’s Stories of Impact features the Seed Library, part of UCJC’s student-led sustainability program Ecohuerta (.experience).

Students take seeds, plant and grow them, then return new seeds from their own plants back to the library 🔄

A continuous cycle, powered entirely by students — no seed ever really leaves, it just keeps growing.

Thank you, Universidad Camilo Jose Cela, for your partnership as an Engaged Member of the Talloires Network and your continued investment in student-led civic engagement 💚

🌱 Civic engagement at looks like this: students learning to cultivate the land and debating the future of the planet.

This week’s Stories of Impact features Ecohuerta (.experience), UCJC’s student-led sustainability program.

Every week, students cultivate soil, sort seeds, harvest vegetables, and plant flowers in the campus garden 🧑‍🌾

Then in the classroom, they debate climate change, sustainability, fast fashion, and recycling 🗣️

Hear directly from UCJC students on what Ecohuerta means to them.

Thank you, Universidad Camilo Jose Cela, for your partnership as an Engaged Member of the Talloires Network and your continued investment in student-led civic engagement 💚

The Department of Community Education (DEEC) implements situated learning models through its courses, articulating teaching, applied research, and community engagement. Its central purpose is to generate formative experiences in the territory that contribute to community well-being and the resolution of local issues with an equity-focused approach.

Innovators for Global Health (IGH) – University of Ghana Chapter is a student-led initiative committed to advancing healthcare equity and improving global healthcare delivery. Through bioengineering, localized medical device design, and cross-border student-clinical collaboration, we empower future innovators to develop sustainable solutions that address the healthcare needs of underserved communities.

The Mount Kenya University Millennium Fellowship Community Outreach Program serves as a multi-disciplinary innovation ecosystem uniting student changemakers across consecutive cohorts to tackle critical issues in healthcare access, climate-smart agriculture, and disability inclusion. By seamlessly bridging grassroots initiatives, such as mobile primary care clinics and tech-driven environmental resilience labs, with the university’s 10-year strategic framework, the program establishes a sustainable blueprint for institutionalized youth leadership and health equity across East Africa.

The Nkwanta North District Youth Empowerment Network (NDYEN) is a student-led civic initiative expanding educational opportunities for underserved youth through mentorship, academic guidance, mental health awareness, and tertiary readiness support. Established in 2022, NDYEN works with basic and senior high school students across Ghana to strengthen confidence, build resilience, foster informed decision-making, and nurture a strong ethic of community service among student volunteers.

The Musical Mentorship Initiative (MMI) is a student-run project out of Bard College’s Trustee Leader Scholar (TLS) office that works to balance the scales of music education by providing free private music education to children who otherwise would not have access to it. MMI began in 2020 by providing free private music lessons and performance opportunities to children in the Hudson Valley area, and has since grown in partnership with the Kenyan non-profit Art of Music to both expand private education to children in Kenya, and to lead four in person music festivals at Art of Music schools in the summers of 2024 and 2025.

FemPower is a flagship initiative of the NUST Community Services Club (NCSC) in Islamabad, dedicated to empowering women from low-income backgrounds. ⭐️ Gender and Sexual Health Project from Sabancı University ⭐️

In a context where Turkish women regularly face violence and discrimination, this project educates students on gender-based discrimination, violence, access to accurate health information, consent, healthy relationships, and sexual rights—impacting 1,100 students since its inception in 1999.

Through workshops, seminars, peer education sessions, and meetings with field experts and NGOs, this project addresses how gender intersects with socioeconomic inequality, access to education, migration, and youth empowerment, while also examining gender in relation to urban life and disaster contexts.

⭐️ Student Civic Initiative from Strathmore University ⭐️

Funded by donations from Strathmore students, the Student Civic Initiative improves the facilities of public primary schools, enhances educational outcomes, and restores the local environmental ecosystems in marginalized rural Kenya.

Students personally labor to repair classrooms, build a well, water pump, and filtration system, install electricity and internet, finance tuition, tutor students, and provide textbooks and exercise books. The initiative reduces the inequality that hampers education access and community development.
