Hey DCCC community! Save the date for tomorrow morning, May 27 at 9 a.m., when the DCCC Municipal Police Academy cadets take their final training run at the Marple Campus. Everyone is invited to wave their rally flags and cheer on our soon-to-be graduates, to honor their commitment to our region's public service. The cadets officially graduate on June 11.

Imagine earning a college degree before you even graduate from high school. At a time when traditional four-year college tuition and student loan debt is skyrocketing, many students are doing just that at DCCC—via high school dual enrollment. While high school graduations haven’t yet happened this spring, Thatcher Respicio and Marcella Ballisty, and more than 30 other local high school students, earned their associate degrees from DCCC last week. Thatcher, of Downingtown East High School, majored in Engineering while Marcella, of Downingtown West High School, earned a Liberal Arts degree. They successfully juggled high school and college studies with their high school clubs and activities, including—in Thatcher’s case—varsity hockey.

Both are headed to four-year universities next fall as sophomores. Thatcher will pursue mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech, and Marcella plans to major in aerospace engineering at Penn State University. CBS 3 Philadelphia TV reporter and anchor Joe Holden caught up with the two at DCCC’s Commencement last week for a great interview!

Thatcher Respicio and Marcella Ballisty both earned degrees from Delaware County Community College on Thursday.

The trades are hot right now. Careers in the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing can offer strong salaries, job stability, hands-on work, and faster entry into the workforce without the high levels of student debt associated with traditional four-year degrees.

On Tuesday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., DCCC's Advanced Technology Center on its Marple Campus will host Try a Trade Day. Whether you’re a high school student exploring career options or an adult considering a career change, you’ll have the chance to step into the lab, watch demonstrations, and meet professionals and instructors who work in these fields every day. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore careers in electrical work, automotive technology, carpentry, welding, CNC machining, HVAC, and more — all industries that face growing workforce demand across the region.

If you’ve ever wondered whether the trades might be the right fit for you, now’s your chance to find out firsthand. This event is free and no prior experience necessary! Register for Try a Trade Day on our dccc.edu/events page and be sure to watch Bob on the Job in our welding lab! https://www.fox29.com/video/1601975

FOX 29's Bob Kelly stops by Delaware County Community College in Media, PA to highlight its tuition-free welding program.

Commencement 2026 is complete—but the afterglow is real! Our graduates, aged 17 to 70 and representing 14 states, overcame barriers, doubts and endless studying to reach this milestone. The College is quiet today but our pride in the Class of 2026 is loud. Congratulations one more time, graduates—we can't wait to see what you accomplish next!

Congratulations to Dionne Harrison, our inspiring Commencement 2026 student speaker! Dionne’s journey reminds us that "[DCCC] sees you and shows up for you. It sees the parents, the career changer, the international student, the first-generation student, the student who thought it might be too late. Here, at Delaware County Community College, education doesn't have an expiration date."
