🎉 Congratulations, Dr. Colby Taylor!

Christian Brothers University is proud to celebrate Dr. Colby Taylor, associate professor of behavioral sciences, who has been named the 2026 Teaching Excellence Award recipient by CBU’s National Alumni Board!

Since joining CBU in 2016, Dr. Taylor has made a lasting impact on students through innovative, engaging, and student-centered teaching. His classroom philosophy is grounded in four values: curiosity, compassion, character, and critical thinking.

Students and colleagues recognize Dr. Taylor for his accessibility, willingness to listen, and ability to meet students where they are while challenging them to grow.

Beyond the classroom, his commitment to students and the Memphis community extends through research, service, and his work supporting individuals with autism. His many accomplishments include being named the 2024 Tracie Burke Distinguished Honors Professor of the Year and 2025 SPARK Educator of the Year for Memphis.

We are thrilled to see Dr. Taylor's dedication to teaching and service recognized with this well-deserved honor. 💙

Sometimes, you have to travel a very long way to see something that was already inside you.

This summer, CBU psychology student Rachel Johnson traveled more than 9,000 miles from Memphis to Thailand, where she worked as a nanny and had the opportunity to help teach English to students at a business college.

She went expecting to serve.

She came home with a new perspective on vocation.

In Thailand, Rachel discovered how much she enjoyed communicating across language and cultural differences, encouraging students as they learned, and building connections with people whose experiences were very different from her own.

It also helped her see something important about her future.

Rachel has interests in psychology, education, writing, social media, disability advocacy, caregiving, international experiences, and communication. For a long time, she wondered how all of those interests could possibly fit together.

Her experience in Thailand helped her realize that perhaps they don't have to fit into one traditional job title.

Instead, there may be a thread connecting them.

For Rachel, that thread is people.

This is one of the things we hope a Lasallian education makes possible: giving students the knowledge and skills to pursue a career, but also the curiosity and courage to discover their vocation.

Rachel's story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most important opportunities begin with two simple words:

Just say yes. 💙🌏

At the heart of design is not just making things—but learning how to see the world differently.

Professor Melinda Eckley Posey, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Christian Brothers University, teaches students that creativity begins with attention: to objects, to stories, and to meaning hidden in plain sight.

Her work has traveled far beyond the classroom—appearing in collaborations with global brands such as Rolex, Ralph Lauren Polo, Subaru, and Hewlett-Packard, and in international initiatives with the United Nations. But ask her what matters most, and she’ll point you back to the studio—to the moment a student realizes their idea can become something real, powerful, and seen.

In her classroom, design is not simply technical skill. It is listening. It is empathy. It is translation. It is learning how to hear what a client—or a community—is truly trying to say.

Her students don’t just study history; they step inside it. They become interpreters, curators, and storytellers, uncovering the “throughlines” that connect visual culture across time and movement.

Outside of teaching, Professor Posey can often be found hiking, reading, or restoring a historic 1857 Italianate home with her family—continuing her lifelong fascination with how beauty, history, and meaning live inside everyday spaces.

At CBU, she is helping students understand something powerful:

We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students in the Behavioral Sciences program at Christian Brothers University!

On March 28, psychology students Angeliki Zannettou and Nima Hasan presented their research at the Southeastern Psychological Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans.

SEPA is one of the largest psychological organizations in the United States, bringing together students and professionals to share research and advance the field of psychology.

Angeliki and Nima were mentored by Dr. Rod Vogl and Dr. Colby Taylor throughout their work.
