Each fall our Peer Assistants Leaders (PA Leaders) help welcome hundreds of our newest students to Rhodes College. This year the PA Leaders had the opportunity to go just a mile down the road to to visit and learn about the innovation and community behind the historic building. They came back with vinyl records, gallery favorites, and a few internship leads 👀〽️

Huge thanks to the Concourse team for showing our PA Leaders what it means to be part of this city. 💙🤍

What happens when Memphis becomes the classroom? 🔎📚

This summer, 17 Rhodes students spent eight weeks exploring Memphis and the Mid-South through the Rhodes Institute for Regional Studies (RIRS).

With support from six faculty mentors, students conducted original research on topics ranging from immigrant activism and literacy to environmental policy and xAI—building skills and scholarship they’ll carry into senior capstones, graduate and law school, fellowships, and beyond.

This is community-engaged learning at Rhodes: learning from Memphis, with Memphis, and through Memphis. đź’ˇ

Over 170 hours of community engagement — and counting.Because investing in educators means investing in students across Memphis and beyond.

Next stop: Canton, Mississippi.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and to all who spent countless hours making this event possible.

The Turley Memphis Center recognized some exceptional students, organizations, community partners, and professors at the Rhodes ❤️ Memphis Lawn Party on April 15th — and we are so proud of each and every honoree. This week we’ll highlight each recipient.

Our Emerging Community Engagement Leaders Award went to none other than the Healing Harmony Club.

Healing Harmony is a Rhodes student organization dedicated to wellness, self-love, balance, and mental health — and their impact stretches far beyond campus. From goat yoga and glow-in-the-dark meditation to combating imposter syndrome, they show up for the Rhodes community in the most meaningful ways. And in Memphis? They're serving at the Memphis Food Bank and hosting events for patients at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Congratulations to Healing Harmony. Pictured is president of Healing Harmony, Drishti Bhatia.

You all are exactly what community engagement looks like.

Environmental justice knows no borders and neither does Rhodes.

Alivia Griwatch, Olivia Alejandre, and Jayden Baichu, alongside community partner Kimberley Davis, represented Rhodes at the Global Environmental Justice Conference 2026 at Colorado State University — a gathering of scholars, advocates, and practitioners united around the theme:

"Where Do We Grow From Here? Environmental Justice and the Politics of Hope in the Planetary Age."

Their participation is part of the broader DEDA project — Data Dissemination Against the Digital Delta: an initiative bridging environmental sustainability and digital innovation — bringing Rhodes and Memphis into a truly global conversation.

A heartfelt thank you to Academic Affairs, IHECJ, and iRaST for making this opportunity possible.
