Congratulations to BUCOM student Marvara Jhala on completing the 2026 Medical Student Research Training Program in Diabetes, Digestive Disease, and Kidney Disease at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine! 👏 💙 Selected through a competitive process, Marvara spent eight weeks in Dr. Agnes Fogo’s lab, investigating cellular changes involved in kidney injury and gaining valuable experience at the intersection of research and clinical medicine. One of the highlights of the experience was working alongside physicians in the renal pathology lab to examine real biopsies and develop key differentials.“Watching myself go from just observing to actually spotting the patterns was when it clicked. This is why the research matters. It connected the dots between the lab and the clinic in a way I hadn't fully felt before.” Marvara Jhala

Last week, BUCOM held it’s annual Donor Memorial Service bringing students, faculty, and staff together to honor the individuals who generously donated their bodies to science. 🩵 Through poetry, artwork, reflections, and a symbolic flower tribute, the Class of 2029 expressed their deep gratitude for the impact these donors have had on their medical education. This meaningful tradition serves as a powerful reminder that medicine is rooted not only in knowledge, but also in compassion, generosity, and humanity. 🕊️
