A small earthquake occurred on Sat Aug 22, 2026 at about 03:54:15 CDT (Aug 22, 2026 08:54:15 UTC) 10.19 km west of Resaca, GA. The magnitude was 2.4.

At 11:35 p.m. local time on August 19, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred west southwest of Paducah, approximately 1 km south of Barkley Regional Airport. The earthquake occurred 14 km below the surface and was felt by local residents.

Earthquakes in this region are infrequent: approximately one earthquake occurs per year within 20 km of yesterday’s event. This relatively low rate contrasts with the more active New Madrid Seismic Zone to the southwest.

The Kentucky Seismic and Strong-Motion Network captured high-quality recordings of the seismic waves across the state, particularly at the Barkley Airport station (P**Y), providing data critical to determining a highly accurate location for this .
