Animation and digital media students are doing more than just course assignments. They're making an impact on the local community. 💙 🍋

Menomonie Market Food Co-op has seen a boost in guests recently after launching an animated commercial on social media, promoting its $6 Monday Value Meals.

The 45-second animated commercial was made in collaboration with UW-Stout Polytechnic animation and digital media students Alyssa Hills and Lin Fullen as part of their field experience at Aurora Bell Tower Studios LLC, owned by Assistant Professor Jesse Woodward.

“Now, more than ever, it is important to recognize the value of human-made art and the unique heart and personality it brings to a business. You can truly see the time, love and labor they poured into this project, and it has made a wonderful impact,” Marketing Manager April Aken said.

With creativity shaped by universal design principles and honed by applied learning, graduates of UW-Stout Polytechnic’s B.F.A. industrial and product design program are creating industry-leading furniture designs, producing pieces you may already be working, sitting or sleeping on. 🛌

Four alumni of the industrial and product design program recently shared about how their experience at Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University prepared them for success in the furniture industry:
🔹 Alek Eglinton, design manager at Flexsteel
🔹 Angel Kraemer, director of design and merchandising at Ashley Furniture Industries
🔹 Brian Linehan, merchandise and design manager at Room & Board (first photo)
🔹 Jordan Dinwiddie, industrial designer at KI Furniture

“Great designers understand materials, manufacturing, craftsmanship and the people who will ultimately live with their creations,” said Associate Professor Dan Neubauer, director of the IPD program. “At UW-Stout Polytechnic, industrial and product design students develop those skills by working directly with materials, building prototypes, and learning through a process of iteration, refinement, and mentorship. The result is an education that extends beyond their design concepts to a deeper understanding of how products are developed and brought into the world. The alumni featured here demonstrate the impact of that experience. While their careers have taken different paths, they share a common foundation: the ability to transform ideas into tangible solutions and create products that improve everyday life.”

Rankings are in, Blue Devils!! 👏 UW-Stout Polytechnic placed among the 25 top regional public universities in the Midwest as well as the in top 20 “Best Value” public universities in the region, according to the latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

The U.S. News 2027 Best Colleges list included UW-Stout Polytechnic and its programs in several key categories:
• Top Public Schools – Regional Universities (Midwest): 25th, rising from 30th the prior year
• Best Value Schools for In-State Students (Midwest): 15th among public universities
• Best Value Schools – Regional Universities (Midwest): 20th among public universities
• Best Colleges for Veterans – Regional Universities (Midwest): 24th among public universities
• Undergraduate Engineering Programs (Non-doctoral): 14th among public universities in the Midwest.

The program’s ranking rose 74 spots among all public and private universities nationwide from the previous year. These rankings reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to its polytechnic tenets, which are part of all programs at UW-Stout Polytechnic, including those in the Robert F. Cervenka School of Engineering.

"Our ABET-accredited engineering programs are built around the university's polytechnic approach to education – combining strong technical foundations with extensive hands-on learning, applied problem-solving and close engagement with industry. Unlike theory-based programs, our students go beyond engineering principles by learning to apply them to real-world challenges through laboratories, R&D projects, internships and industry partner collaborative experiences as early as their first semester," said Professor David Ding, director of the Robert F. Cervenka School of Engineering at UW-Stout Polytechnic.

The Cervenka School of Engineering is home to ABET-accredited programs in computer and electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, plastics engineering and engineering technology, as well as a nationally ranked bachelor's program in packaging. A master's in manufacturing engineering is available on campus or online.
