23 years of friendship, dedication, and helping students succeed! 💙

Since 2003, Merced College English Professor Michael Barba and Guidance Counselor Enrique Renteria have worked side by side to build a Puente Program that has become a model for community colleges across California.

The Puente Program is designed to help students achieve their academic goals and prepare for transfer to four-year universities through English instruction, counseling, and mentorship. Beyond academics, Puente creates a supportive community where students build confidence, meaningful connections, and a sense of belonging.

Through their dedication, Barba and Renteria have helped generations of students see what's possible and take the next step toward their future.

Spring 2027 registration is here, Blue Devils!

Registration dates and priority groups:

October 19 – Group 1: Eligible foster and homeless youth, veterans, EOPS, DSPS, CalWORKs, Tribal TANF, student parents, and justice-involved students.

October 21 – Group 2A: Student-athletes, international students, students with a 3.5+ GPA, and qualifying continuing students with 30–75 units.

October 26 – Group 2B: New students, including graduating high school seniors, who have completed orientation and an education plan.

November 2 – Group 2C: Returning students and other eligible continuing students.

November 4 – Group 3: All other students, including K–12 special admits and students who have completed 100+ degree-applicable units.

Priority registration eligibility requirements apply. Check your assigned registration date through the MC Portal and meet with a counselor to plan your classes.

Spring classes begin January 11, 2027!

On October 24, we're bringing even more excitement with Merced College After Hours! Join us for a festival featuring food vendors, music, games and activities outside the theater.

When Merced College began exploring Dreamscape Learn’s immersive learning technology, we knew that listening to faculty, including those with questions and concerns, would be essential to making the initiative successful.

It’s a great example of how we live Out Our CORE, putting Trust and Communication, Collaboration, and Innovation and Technology into practice, all in the name of student success.

From the college’s earliest study spaces to Lesher Library and today’s Downey Learning Resource Center, generations of Blue Devils have found a place to learn, study and plan what comes next.

Fun fact: When the library moved into the Lesher Building in 1972, approximately 22,000 books made the move, too.

The spaces have changed. The purpose hasn’t.

Since 1962, we’ve been here. So you can get there.

For nearly 40 years, Dr. Max Hallman taught philosophy at Merced College, touching the lives of generations of students.

His daughter, Hannah Redd-Hallman, wanted to celebrate his lasting legacy in a tangible way by honoring him with a plaque on the Alumni Trident.

Some legacies deserve to be remembered forever.
