The Eastfield College Police Department participated in the Cops and Donuts Alcohol Awareness event hosted by the Eastfield Health Center.

Officers spoke to community members about the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Officers also conducted standardized field sobriety exams for community members who were wearing intoxication simulator goggles provided by the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission.

One of our police cars was outfitted with an intoxicated driver simulator provided by the Texas Department of Transportation, which allowed volunteers to see the effects of impaired driver reactions.

We all also had an opportunity to hear 1st hand the story of a victim who was injured as a result of riding with and driver who had been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Today the Eastfield College Police Department honored Officer E. Reymundo with a small luncheon and a cermony for his line of duty injury.

On November 3rd, 2014 Officer Elias Reymundo was injured while on duty while trying to subdue a knife wielding suspect. During the altercation Officer Reymundo was stabbed several times on the back of his head and neck.

Despite being injured and bleeding heavily, Officer Reymundo continued his attempts to apprehend the suspect. Officer Reymundo did not give up the fight to try and locate the suspect who was indeed arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.

The night of the event, the attending emergency room physician stated to Officer Reymundo that in all his years as a doctor he had only seen two miracles, Officer Reymundo was the 2nd one. Officer Reymundo was literally centimeters from suffering fatal wounds.

Notwithstanding his life threating incident, Officer Reymundo has continued to perform his duties as a Police Officer. He has bravely and proudly continued to serve the Dallas County Community College District and the Eastfield community. He continues to dedicate his life to public service and courageously dawns on his duty uniform despite knowing 1st hand the dangers of his chosen profession.

Today we came together as a professional family to honor our brother in blue and validate his bravery, courage and to stand with him in support on this day, the 2 year anniversary of the event.

Chief Horak read a proclamation dedicating the police squad room to Officer Reymundo, the room will now be know as the "Elias N. Reymundo Squad Room".

We are all proud to serve with you Officer Reymundo!

As was the case 2 years ago, you are not alone and your brothers and sisters in blue are here to support you.
