A new study reveals that mothers partnered with men carry the heaviest household labor burden compared to other groups. Unlike women in same-gender relationships, these mothers do not experience increased relationship satisfaction from having greater decision-making power.

This week, Héctor Peguero presented his research at The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) in Philadelphia- bringing powerful conversations to the forefront of sexual health scholarship.

His poster, titled “Drugs brings the freak out of people’: Narratives of sexualized drug use and PrEP among Latino men” dove deep into the lived experiences, challenges, and resilience of Latino men navigating sexualized drug use and HIV prevention.

This work highlights the importance of culturally grounded research and community-centered storytelling — and stands as part of Héctor’s ongoing collaboration with University of Florida Professor José Colón Burgos.

📚 A huge shout-out to Nina Dours, ASCP doctoral student, whose master’s thesis has just been published in Psychology of Women Quarterly! 📝✨

Nina's research found women in different-gender relationships—especially mothers—perform significantly more household labor than their partners, which is associated with lower relationship satisfaction. The study also shows that unequal labor division and reduced decision-making power affect satisfaction. Her work is paving new pathways for research and understanding.

Abbey is spending the semester in Lebanon after being awarded an FIU Dissertation Evidence Acquisition Fellowship—and she’s making the most of every moment!

Working closely with partners at the American University of Beirut, she’s diving into a powerful research project exploring how emerging adult Lebanese individuals build and sustain resilience in the face of social, cultural, and economic challenges
