Today's Foodie Friday takes us to Naples, Italy. Pizza napoletana is thought to be the OG, the historical source of today's modern pizza culture. Simple in its preparation and its presentation, pizza napoletana is characterized by a soft crust with high edges, and tomatoes and mozzarella that are native to the region of its origin. This simple, traditional food is so iconic that the art of making it is included on UNESCO's list of "intangible cultural heritage." So next time you order a pizza, just remember where it all began!

This drop-in event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone who wants to practice their spoken Spanish. The Language Resource Center will host "LRC Video Chat: USA v. Europe "Live to Work? Work to Live?" on Wednesday, October 14, from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Despite its title, the "LRC Video Chat," does not entail the online Teams or Zoom environment you may be thinking of, but rather a laidback, in-person opportunity to watch a short, culturally themed video and engage in friendly face-to-face discussion afterward. The video will be screened in the LRC film viewing area. Join us on our cozy sectional sofa to watch, discuss and expand your cultural paradigms.

****Due to space constraints, seating is limited to the first 10 attendees. We will begin promptly at 5 p.m. *****

Both the video and discussion will be in English, so we welcome anyone who is interested to come and join us.

Congratulations to the newest inductees to the Kappa Psi chapter of Sigma Delta Pi. Sigma Delta Pi is the only Hispanic national honor society in the United States, and membership is contingent on academic merit in the study of Spanish. Our recent inductees include: Sherlyn Camacho Bustamonte, Abigail Crittenden, Marisol Guzman-Rangel, Ava Kline, Nicholle Patron, Ella Templeton, and Ellison Townsend. The new inductees are pictured here with Dr. Daniel Holcombe, faculty advisor for Sigma Delta Pi, and Talia Hayes, Kappa Psi chapter president. Great work to all involved!

It's time for another Foodie Friday, and this week's feature are pupusas. Made from cornmeal or rice flour, these traditional flatbreads from El Salvador and Honduras are stuffed with various savory fillings such as cheese, beans or pork, and then griddled until they are golden brown. Pupusas can be topped with curtido, a slightly fermented slaw, and salsa roja, a mild tomato sauce. The pupusa is so iconic, it is the national dish of El Salvador. There is even a national holiday dedicated to it the second Sunday of November each year!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by Wednesday for "Ingredients from the Hispanic World." The Language Resource Center invites members of the Georgia College & State University campus community who are interested in practicing their Italian skills to drop in between 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, for Italian Conversation Table. Practice your speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary with others and enjoy the camaraderie that can develop in navigating another language alongside other people. Support materials will be provided, but open conversation is welcome too.

The Spanish 1002 students of Drs. Castillo-Scott and Diaz-Gomez invite you to join them at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 7 for "Ingredients from the Hispanic World." Students will exhibit posters of their research on native ingredients, recipes and traditions from various Spanish-speaking countries. Stop by Peabody Auditorium to admire their work and participate in provided activities. All students are invited regardless of whether or not they study Spanish. And immediately after, at 6:00 pm, the Spanish Club will host Hispanic Culture Jeopardy Night. We hope you can join us!
