More than a century ago, this tree-lined road welcomed students, faculty, and visitors arriving at Millersville. Long before the steady flow of cars and campus traffic we know today, Shenk's Lane offered a quiet entrance to the University, framed by towering trees and wooden fences.

As we continue our journey through Millersville's history, photos like this remind us how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. While the landscape has evolved, the spirit of learning and community that defines Millersville remains as strong as ever.

Take a step back in time with this view of the Library and Science Hall, two of the campus's earliest landmarks.

Join us as we explore the history of Millersville University through the years. Before the Touchstone was called the Touchstone, the campus had the Wickersham, named after a founding father.

The Science Hall, the building in the background, no longer stands. After serving students for decades, it was demolished, and today the site is home to Dilworth Hall, continuing the tradition of learning and discovery on campus.

🖤💛 Once a Marauder, always a Marauder!

You never know when a Millersville reunion might break out!

At the Twilight Tune-Up Cross Country Invitational at Warwick, a few former members of the Millersville University Track & Field team unexpectedly found themselves together again—this time supporting the next generation of local student-athletes.

Among the Marauders reconnecting were David Howell ’00, Keith Hershey ’99, Heather Hershey ‘98, Sam Gates ‘01, Becky Howell ’00 and Dr. Leslie Gates ’03. Dr. Gates has even brought her Millersville journey full circle and now serves as a professor in the University’s Art and Design program!

Today, their connections to track & field continue through coaching, family, and supporting local student-athletes—including Keith, who serves as a jumping coach at Conestoga Valley High School.

From competing together at the ’Ville to crossing paths again on the sidelines years later, it’s a great reminder that Marauder connections have a way of lasting long after graduation. 💛

🍎 For generations, Millersville has been preparing the teachers who shape future generations.

This 1951 photo of the Future Teachers of America organization captures a tradition that has long been a part of Millersville's identity. From its roots as a teacher-training institution to today, thousands of educators have begun their journeys here, carrying the knowledge, mentorship, and passion they gained on campus into classrooms across Pennsylvania and beyond.

More than 70 years later, Millersville continues its legacy of preparing the next generation of teachers to make a difference in the lives of their students.

A single computer terminal like this represented a glimpse into the future, as students and faculty began exploring the possibilities of a digital world. More than four decades later, technology has transformed nearly every aspect of campus life, from artificial intelligence and cloud computing to virtual collaboration and data-driven research.

The technology may look very different in 2026, but the spirit of innovation and curiosity that drives discovery remains the same.
