From the lab bench to the poster board. 🔬

Last week, our 2026 Biomedical Sciences Summer Research Program students showcased the culmination of 10 weeks of hard work, curiosity, and discovery during their annual poster presentation.

Working alongside faculty mentors, students conducted independent research across a variety of biomedical and health sciences disciplines while developing the skills that will shape the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals.

Congratulations to all of our SRP participants on a fantastic summer!

Congratulations to Dr. Marieke Gilmartin on receiving more than $700,000 in NIH funding to support two innovative research projects focused on the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s disease!

🧠 R21 Grant: Investigating how ovarian hormones and aging influence prefrontal brain activity involved in episodic fear memories and cognition

🧠 R03 Grant: Identifying early brain biomarkers of cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease before onset of symptoms

🏆 Congratulations to BISC PhD student, Logan Friedrich, on an incredible achievement!

Recently, Logan presented his research poster at the Annual Symposium of the Neurotrauma Society, where he was awarded the Spinal Trauma Award—the conference’s highest honor for research posters focused on spinal cord injury. This prestigious recognition reflects his dedication to advancing neuroscience research and the outstanding work being done within our department.
