Dr. Karen Andeen, Clare Boothe Luce Associate Professor of Physics in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, is a frequent collaborator with the winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics, Dr. Francis Halzen. 💡

Andeen earned her Ph.D. in Dr. Halzen’s IceCube group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and helped to build the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, the South Pole research facility which Halzen envisioned. 🧊

Dr. Sheikh Iqbal Ahamed, an A&S professor in the Department of Computer Science, and Dr. Norah Johnson, professor in the Marquette University College of Nursing, received a $306,000 grant for the development of an app that helps support communication for children with autism. 💬

“I want to personally thank both Dean Jill Guttormson of the College of Nursing and Dean Heather Hathaway of the College of Arts and Sciences for allowing this kind of collaboration, and I’m confident it will result in exciting outcomes,” Ahamed said.

The Klingler College of Arts and Sciences mourns the loss of Dr. Phillip Naylor, professor emeritus of history and a cherished member of the Marquette community. For decades, Dr. Naylor helped generations of students make sense of the past while inspiring them to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Remembered as a gifted teacher, accomplished scholar and compassionate friend, Dr. Naylor’s curiosity, warmth and generosity enriched the Marquette community in countless ways. His legacy lives on through the students, colleagues and friends whose lives he touched.

Marquette University mourns the loss of Dr. Phillip Naylor, professor emeritus of history, who died on July 20, 2026 at the age of 77.
