What a powerful moment for Fond du Lac and for our community. 2026 continues to open doors, elevate leaders, and shine a light on excellence that inspires our youth.

Today, we proudly celebrate Mrs. Naquisha Mann, the FIRST African American woman in Fond du Lac’s history to serve as Assistant Principal of Theisen Middle School — a milestone rooted in representation, perseverance, and purpose.

With 24 years of teaching and instructional experience, Mrs. Mann has dedicated her life to maximizing student potential, strengthening family engagement, and building bridges across diverse school communities. Her journey spans urban, rural, suburban, and metropolitan districts, giving her a rare, comprehensive understanding of the students she serves.

Her academic foundation from Alverno College, her commitment to equity, and her deep passion for student-centered leadership have shaped her into the kind of educator who changes lives. As she shared, “I am deeply honored to join this wonderful school community…” — and we are honored to welcome her.

This achievement is more than a new role. It is history, hope, and visibility for every child who needs to see that leadership looks like them. As Mrs. Mann steps into this groundbreaking position, she reminds us that progress is not accidental — it is earned through decades of service, advocacy, and unwavering belief in our youth.

Fond du Lac is blessed to witness a leader who brings strength, compassion, and brilliance to the forefront.

Congratulations to our two new associate deans in Nursing: Dr. Sheila Heinert and Dr. Shari Fehrenbach! 👏

Dr. Heinert will serve as JMSNHP Associate Dean in Mesa, overseeing the DEMSN program. Meanwhile, Dr. Fehrenbach will serve as JMSNHP Associate Dean in Milwaukee, supporting our students, faculty, and Chair of our Undergraduate Nursing Programs as well as the Directors of our DEMSN, FNP, PMHNP, DNP-Educational Leadership, and DNP-Executive Leadership programs.

We’re excited to celebrate these new leadership roles and all they will bring to Alverno!

Yesterday, the Alverno community gathered for our Opening School Mass to welcome the new academic year. Faculty, staff and students took time to reflect, celebrate and look ahead to the opportunities and experiences the year will bring.

Alverno alum Mariah Smith '26, a graduate of our Paraprofessional to Teacher program, was recently featured by TMJ4 News for her work organizing First Day Fits, a back-to-school event now in its fifth year.

The event provides children and families with new clothes, shoes, haircuts, hair braiding, food and other resources for the new school year.

As an educator, Mariah shared that a new outfit is about more than looking good on the first day of school. It’s about giving a child one less thing to worry about when they walk into the classroom.

📖 A new chapter begins at Alverno!

Today, we celebrated Convocation, where we welcomed new students to the Alverno community! Before the celebration, students enjoyed a sweet treat and decorated their own tote bags!

As part of this tradition, students signed their names in a book of registration and received a bookmark with words of encouragement from recent Alverno graduates. Here’s to the beginning of an incredible Alverno journey! 💛

The start of the school year means a lot of fun events on campus!

Last week, our STEM department kicked off the semester with its Fall Kick-off & Student Research Symposium! Students had the chance to learn more about the opportunities available through Alverno’s STEM program, connect with faculty and enjoy a research poster showcase.

We were also excited to welcome Alverno alum Yesenia ’25, who shared her experience with the Student-Centered Pathway to Advance Research and Cancer Careers program at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

This week, three Alverno faculty members and four Education students spent time helping Lincoln Avenue School teachers, as they prepare for their new location at Pulaski High School, following a devasting fire this summer.

Together, they opened, sorted and delivered boxes of curriculum materials to classrooms, helping make the transition a little easier during a challenging time.

Thank you to our faculty and students for putting Alverno’s mission into action and showing what it means to serve our community.
