Our next senior sportlight is Brooklynn!
Brooklynn tells us, “I learned about who I am and what I want out of my life. With the countless hours of volunteering on campus, many days of shadowing doctors in the O.R. and OB-GYN clinic, and years working in an understaffed Emergency Department, I realized what my purpose was. I decided I wanted to become a nurse to assist our community against our daily fight against diseases, viruses, misinformation, and vulnerability. I am proud to announce that I have been accepted into Southwestern Adventist University's Nursing program, where I will be studying for the following two and a half years! After my time studying, I will serve my community as a registered nurse (RN) and plan to become a notable figure on the Texas Board of Nursing. My overall goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner so I can open a clinic that focuses on Women's Health and hormones, starting a research lab to uncover the mystery behind the complexity of the female endocrine system.
As for favorite memories, she says “Joining the Student Government Association. Amidst the pandemic and as a freshman, I had the pleasure of becoming an executive member of the Student Government, working my way to the top and becoming the President of the 2023-2024 academic year. My hard work and dedication paid off and I had the opportunity to organize the most prestigious board this University has seen. The Student Government Association has taught me skills about leadership, cooperation, and networking. These traits have landed me opportunities to give speeches on many occasions and put me in contact with influential people I otherwise would not have had the pleasure of meeting.”
Brooklynn’s “anything else” is a shout out, “My parents have played a very large role in my success on campus starting from the very beginning. They introduced me to the idea of attending Texas Wesleyan and pushed me to become the best version of myself. I was extremely grateful and ecstatic when I received my acceptance letter to TxWes. I decided to put all of my time and energy into bettering this campus the moment I discovered I was going to become a Ram! I started my own club on campus, the Ram's Swim Club, where I taught students how to swim and better their swimming skills. Soon after I joined the Student Government. It was my parents influence that got me to Texas Wesleyan, so it was only fitting to make them proud by becoming a figure on campus. Every day since Fall 2020, my Dad has sent me words of encouragement and inspiration to push me through my days and every night I come home to my Mom's loving hugs and proud endearment. If my parents love wasn't able to help me through the rough days, I looked forward to seeing the smile on my brother's face when I tell him the experiences I have had on campus. I feel honored to know that I am somebody he looks up to and it motivates me when I don't have any for myself. As a first-generation college student, I strive to set myself and my family up for success through my own accomplishments and accolades. My Great Grandmother used to always say, "Remember who you are, where you came from, and who loves you."”
Brooklynn, you will do great things!
