Exciting research in action at the Minnesota State Fair! Last week, Ann Van Heest, MD, and the study team connected with fairgoers at the University of Minnesota's Research Building, inviting people to demonstrate how they write and hold a pen. Their goal is to expand our understanding of how people who have diseases or serious injuries that affect their hands may use their thumb for handwriting. The team is back at the fair today from 2:30 – 9:00 p.m.

This week kicked off our first resident lab day as part of the Core Curriculum! We’re proud to offer monthly simulation days, thoughtfully tailored by Jacob Ristow, MD, for each PGY class. This robust program reflects our incredible education team, Dr. Ristow's leadership as simulator director, and the commitment of faculty who volunteer their time. On Friday, June 26, we celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of the Class of 2026 during our Orthopedic Surgery Graduation Ceremony. 🎓

This milestone represents the culmination of a journey decades in the making: 13 years of primary and secondary school, 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 5 years of orthopedic surgery training. Now, each of our 8 graduates will embark on at least one additional year of fellowship, further demonstrating their dedication to excellence within their chosen orthopedic subspecialty.

These outstanding individuals have committed their lives to delivering exceptional orthopedic care to the communities that need it most. Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 👏
