Going to the state fair? Come take part in research!

In this first study, occupational therapy researchers will measure shoulder blade motion of both arms using a protractor-like device. The session should take 10-15 minutes. This information will help understand normal movement of the shoulder blade so that health care providers can compare deficits in movement to what is normal for the purpose of planning treatment.

Saturday, Aug. 29 | 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 30 | 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Age 18+ with no history of shoulder injury or problems that would impact shoulder blade movement

When alumna Dr. Joni Watling decided in her late 30s to pursue a master’s in the Occupational Therapy, University of Minnesota program, what stood out most to her was the its interdisciplinary nature. Coming from a background in journalism and music, she was a nontraditional student in more than one way and looking to reinvent herself.

“Years ago my older sister told me that she could see me working as an occupational therapist because of the diversity of creative possibilities that exist and the opportunity to not have the same two days in a row,” she said.

The University of Minnesota's College of Pharmacy recently hosted 13 high schoolers over two days on the Duluth campus for PhaRx, an exploratory program about the profession of pharmacy. Students learned about the many career opportunities available to pharmacists, about traditional medicines, research, pharmacogenomics, the patient experience, and toured Essentia Health! The PhaRx program is the signature component of the PharmD Pathways Program, which is funded by a generous grant from the McKesson Foundation.
