A LEGACY THAT WILL LIVE FOREVER.
Today, we mourn the passing of a true trailblazer, pioneer, and beloved member of the Bulldog family, Dr. Richard E. Holmes, the first African American student to enroll at Mississippi State University.
In 1965, Dr. Holmes courageously made history, opening doors of opportunity for generations of students who would follow in his footsteps. His unwavering commitment to education, service, and Mississippi State University leaves a legacy that will forever be woven into the fabric of our institution.
Dr. Holmes did more than make history. He paved the way for others to make history of their own. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Holmes family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his remarkable journey.
His legacy lives on through every student we serve, every opportunity we create, and every barrier we work to remove. Rest in peace, Dr. Richard E. Holmes. Your legacy will forever be our inspiration.
