Congratulations to Gillian Michael! She received the 2026 Montana Association of School Psychologists Exemplary Student Action Award!

Gillian is an advanced doctoral student and was awarded this scholarship at the annual convention for her work with the graduate student association, as project coordinator of the RAISE Initiative, in additional to her courses, clinical practicum, and research!

The RAISE Initiative will be providing 3 semesters of free tuition, a paid graduate assistantship, and scholarships to one more cohort of Specialist students.

STAR is an SEL curriculum based on cognitive behavioral
therapy components. Use of the curriculum in a classroom
setting supports students in understanding and mitigating the
effects of stress, traumatic stress, and loss, while fostering
hope, and building skills that promote healing and resilience.
The curriculum is one element of a multi-tiered traumainformed
school system as a Tier 1 or universal strategy
suitable for all students. The curriculum is developmentally
appropriate for students between 6th and 12th grade. Each of
the 8 lesson plans fits within an approximate 50minute time
frame and can be facilitated by classroom teachers, school
counselors, or other youth service workers—no clinical
training is required.
