Bridger Smith, MS in Cyber/Electronic Operations and Warfare โ€™21, is an NPS alumnus and Account Manager at Defense Unicorns. While at the Naval Postgraduate School, his thesis research focused on developing a lightweight, tactical edge Platform as a Service and cybersecurity suite for submarine platforms. His work received an outstanding thesis award and the NDIA Rear Admiral Jack Jarabak Bronze Star Award.

Today, Smith continues to use the skillset and tools he learned at NPS in his work at Defense Unicorns. Developing and deploying software to submarines was foundational to major programs such as Project Overmatch and Project Blue. Defense Unicornsโ€™ recent success and down selection to deploy its Unified Defense Stack onto warships is attributable back to Bridgerโ€™s initial thesis.

Smith remains engaged with NPS as both an alumnus and industry professional, including through Converge @ NPS. He sees NPS as a vital bridge between the tactical layer of military operations and technical feasibility. At Converge, interactions between the operational community, industry, government, and academia allow shared challenges to be confronted through collaborative problem-solving rather than siloed efforts.

Looking to attend Monterey's premier holiday event? The Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist throughout the year and attend the Grand Winter Ball on December 5.

Student members of the Foundation who will still be at the Naval Postgraduate School or the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center on the date of the event and their spouses/partners are eligible to volunteer. Each couple is asked to volunteer for four shifts.

What a memorable way to conclude an incredible week at the Naval Postgraduate School.

Following Converge @ NPS and the International Alumni Symposium, the NPS Foundation & Alumni Association welcomed students, alumni, faculty, industry, partners, and supporters for Ocean at Night at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Set against the backdrop of Monterey Bay, the evening provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships, continue conversations sparked throughout the week, and celebrate the community that makes NPS unique.

Last week, the Naval Postgraduate School community convened students, defense focused faculty, industry, and government and military professionals during Converge @ NPS, connecting technology and innovation with operational needs to accelerate solutions for national security.

The Tech & Project Showcase brought that mission to life, with more than 30 industry and government exhibitors alongside 20+ NPS student and faculty projects, creating opportunities to explore emerging technologies, discover collaborative research, and build partnerships for testing, prototyping, and deploying solutions.

With more than 550 participants and countless meaningful conversations throughout the showcase, breakout sessions, workshops, and panels, the 2026 July Converge @ NPS was an incredible success.
