NPS students and faculty got hands-on experience with the latest AI technologies, computing systems and devices from Dell Technologies during its Tech Tour stop at the Naval Postgraduate School.

The visit included a Secure Software Supply Chain AI Hackathon supported by Dell, Sterling and NVIDIA, providing an opportunity to work directly with industry experts and apply Dell GB10 systems, frontier AI and locally deployed models to a critical cybersecurity challenge.

Bringing these technologies and industry experts directly to NPS creates opportunities for students and faculty to explore their applications to the complex challenges facing the Naval and Joint Force.

As a Partner Intermediary, the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation works with industry to expand access to the technology, expertise and resources that support NPS research, education and the development of national security solutions.

Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, 2001, we remember the lives lost and honor the legacy of service within the Naval Postgraduate School community.

NPS alumnus and Executive Vice President of the NPS Foundation, Todd Lyons, was at the Pentagon on 9/11. In the years that followed, he spent nearly a decade in the Middle East doing the work he had studied and prepared for at NPS—an education he describes as “one of the most impactful experiences of my life.”

Following their landmark Artemis II mission earlier this year, NASA astronauts Victor Glover, MS in Systems Engineering ’09, and Reid Wiseman, Certificate of Space Systems ’08, are transitioning to emeritus status at the agency’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Glover and Wiseman were among the first humans to travel to lunar orbit in more than 50 years, ultimately flying farther in space than anyone had before. As emeriti, they will continue supporting NASA by sharing their experience and expertise in support of future Artemis missions.

Bridger Smith, MS in Cyber/Electronic Operations and Warfare ’21, is an NPS alumnus and Account Manager at Defense Unicorns. While at the Naval Postgraduate School, his thesis research focused on developing a lightweight, tactical edge Platform as a Service and cybersecurity suite for submarine platforms. His work received an outstanding thesis award and the NDIA Rear Admiral Jack Jarabak Bronze Star Award.

Today, Smith continues to use the skillset and tools he learned at NPS in his work at Defense Unicorns. Developing and deploying software to submarines was foundational to major programs such as Project Overmatch and Project Blue. Defense Unicorns’ recent success and down selection to deploy its Unified Defense Stack onto warships is attributable back to Bridger’s initial thesis.

Smith remains engaged with NPS as both an alumnus and industry professional, including through Converge @ NPS. He sees NPS as a vital bridge between the tactical layer of military operations and technical feasibility. At Converge, interactions between the operational community, industry, government, and academia allow shared challenges to be confronted through collaborative problem-solving rather than siloed efforts.
