Alabama State University alumni returned to campus Thursday, Oct. 8, bringing experience, encouragement and a little Hornet pride with them for the 3rd Annual “Hornets Are Home” in the Vivian DeShields Auditorium. The event gave students an opportunity to hear directly from successful ASU graduates as they shared their experiences, answered questions and offered advice about life and careers beyond the University. Dr. Courtney L. Teague, Brandon Dean, Valencia Moss, Dr. Jonelle McCollough and Orlando Arnold took part in a panel discussion focused on connecting with and mentoring the next generation of Hornets.

One of the afternoon’s biggest surprises came from Curtina L. Brewton, a 1996 graduate of ASU’s College of Business and Administration. Brewton, a consulting manager with AMDOCS and president and co-founder of the Black Professionals Employee Networking Group, returned to her alma mater with more than advice to share. She gave 20 laptops and iPhones to students attending the event, providing technology that can help them pursue their education and prepare for their careers. Brewton has more than 25 years of experience in information technology and has worked to help bridge the technology gap for communities and schools with limited access to IT career resources. Her message to the next generation reflects the lasting value of her own ASU experience: “I invested 5 years in myself at Alabama State University for a 30-year return on investment — and still going!” See more https://asu-photos.exposure.co/the-week-in-pictures-at-asu-oct-410-2026
