The Alabama State University Music Department is excited to welcome Mr. Terrace Cobb as a clinician for the 2027 High School Honor Band!

Mr. Cobb serves as Assistant Director of Bands at Homewood High School in Alabama and visual coordinator for the Homewood Patriot Marching Band. He has taught in Homewood City Schools since 2006, previously serving as Director of Bands at Homewood Middle School.
His professional appointments include serving as a clinician for Troy University’s 2025 Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic and Honor Bands, and serving on the 2020–21 adjudication panel for All National Music’s Band Plus+ virtual festival. A past president of Troy University’s band alumni organization, Cobb has also served as an assistant conductor of the Homewood Pops Community Band.

Originally from Fitzgerald, Georgia, Cobb earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music Education from Troy University. At Troy, he performed with the Symphony Band, Concert Band, and Sound of the South Marching Band and taught color guard for the Sound of the South.

Thank you to the Challenger Middle School Jazz Band and their director, Patrick Greene for performing as a featured ensemble during our Middle School Honor Band weekend. An excellent performance featuring many outstanding soloists and musicians! And thank you to our great Mr. Isaac Bell for leading them through a jazz masterclass this morning!

Today, Dr. Williams and 3 students - Kahlil Walker, Zachkariah Askew, and Jalen Winston - had the opportunity to attend the Black Orchestral Network Summit in Atlanta, GA. They were able to network with their peers and veterans in the Orchestral world, receive guidance with several masterclasses, and watch several attendees perform.

"The mission of the Black Orchestral Network (BON) is to support Black orchestral musicians by Cultivating Community, Lifting Our Voices, and Telling Our Stories. We see a world where Black orchestral musicians easily find reflections of themselves, and all their complexities, in the history and future of orchestral music."

ASU hopes to continue this connection with BON for future summits and opportunities for our students.
