Representatives from the ACCS visited the new Junior Achievement of Alabama McWane Economic Education Center in downtown Birmingham today, officially cutting the ribbon for the pair of spaces the ACCS houses within the $18 million project – one each in the BizTown and Finance Park.

The center will open in October to middle school students within a 100-mile radius.

In the BizTown section, students will have the opportunity to “attend” the ACCS and learn about the education and training opportunities available through Alabama’s community colleges. Students will experience how earning a certificate, workforce training credential, or degree through the ACCS can help them advance in their career and increase their earning potential.

In Finance Park, students are given a real-world financial scenario and must build a monthly budget while balancing everyday expenses, helping them understand the value of education, workforce training, financial literacy, and long-term career planning.

Congratulations to Coastal Alabama Community College's nursing program for earning the National League for Nursing Center of Excellence designation!

Coastal Alabama is the 2nd ACCS college all-time to earn this prestigious designation and one of only 20 colleges in the nation to achieve it this year.

One of only 20. In the ENTIRE nation. 🩺🏆

Coastal Alabama’s Nursing Program has officially been named a 2026 National League for Nursing Center of Excellence, one of only 20 programs in the entire nation to earn this designation this year.

This is more than a recognition. It’s national validation of what our students, faculty, clinical partners, and communities already know: exceptional nurses are being built right here at Coastal Alabama.

The Alabama Community College System (ACCS) and the Alabama Fiber Network (AFN) announced the addition of seven ACCS schools as anchor institutions to the fiber network during Wednesday morning's Board of Trustees meeting!

“The Alabama Fiber Network reaches every corner of the state and positively impacts Alabama communities, families and businesses. We pride ourselves on those strengths as well,” said ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker. “From the beginning of this partnership, we knew our colleges would benefit tremendously from these services. This network gives our colleges the infrastructure to share resources, strengthen academic and workforce programs, and better serve students across the state while preparing us for the technologies of tomorrow.”

Gadsden State Community College, LBW Community College, Northwest Shoals Community College, Shelton State Community College, Snead State Community College, Southern Union State Community College - Technical Division and Wallace Community College Selma make up the first cohort of ACCS schools to go live on the fiber network. The goal is to have all 24 ACCS community and technical schools join the network by the end of 2027, strengthening teaching, learning and college operations.
