✨ A huge thank you to Emily Johnston! ✨

Yesterday, Ms. Grimes’ Introduction to Education class had the privilege of hearing from UAM Counselor, Emily Johnson, who shared an honest and uplifting conversation about managing the stress of being a college student.

Emily spoke about recognizing stress early, building healthy routines, and reaching out for support when things feel overwhelming. She also provided students with practical coping skills, helpful campus resources, and real‑world strategies they can use right away.

Her encouragement and transparency reminded our future educators that taking care of themselves is just as important as taking care of their students. 💛📚

We’re grateful for her time, her wisdom, and her commitment to supporting students on their journey.

UAM School of Education is excited to announce a powerful new partnership with Drew Central Elementary! Together, we are building a lab school experience that brings university learning directly into the heart of DCE’s campus.

This fall, the Teaching Literacy course—led by Crystal Grimes—will meet at Drew Central Elementary, giving our teacher candidates the opportunity to apply what they’re learning in real time. Before they begin their clinical internships, students will work alongside DCE educators and practice effective literacy instruction with children in authentic classroom settings.

This collaboration strengthens both institutions and creates meaningful learning opportunities for future teachers and young readers. We’re proud of this step forward and grateful for our partners and the shared commitment to excellence in education. Drew Central Elementary
