BYU Alumni - Bear Lake Area Chapter Our goal is to enlarge the Spirit of the Y (community recognition, service projects, personal and spiritual education, continuing personal development).

We came to learn and now we are going out to serve! Reorganized in 2026, the Idaho - Bear Lake Area Chapter of BYU Alumni encompasses a wide area over select tri-state counties of southeastern Idaho, northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming. In Idaho, the chapter represents the counties of Bear Lake, Caribou, Franklin, Bannock, Power and Oneida. In Utah, the chapter represents the counties of Rich,

Cache and Box Elder. In Wyoming, the chapter represents the counties of Lincoln, Uinta and Sweetwater. Currently, leadership hails from Bear Lake, Idaho and Cache, County, Utah. Alumni chapters originally in Pocatello, Idaho and Logan, Utah have been folded in to this new chapter. This large tri-state chapter is reaching out to BYU alumni currently numbering 7,763 (2,252 in Idaho, 4,619 in Utah and 892 in Wyoming). While large geographically and in alumni numbers, the Idaho - Bear Lake Area Chapter is working to enlarge its alumni and serve our communities. We are making every effort to connect alumni with students (mentoring, internships, employment opportunities, replenishment grants). We are making every effort to connect alumni with each other (networking, career and professional development, social activities). So Cougar Nation, come and be a part of giving back to our incredible university.

In April 2026, The Bear Lake Area Chapter distributed over $18,000 in replenishment grants to BYU students! The majority of the funds come from the BYU license plate fund from the State of Utah and the replenishment grants are destined for BYU students from Utah. Future replenishment grants will include money donated by our chapter BYU alumni so stay tuned for future fundraising and donation efforts later this year!

Milestones Announced for the Montpelier Idaho Temple

This will be the eighth dedicated house of the Lord in Idaho

MONTPELIER, Idaho, May 4, 2026—The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the open house and dedication dates for the
Montpelier Idaho Temple.
A media day will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, followed by private tours for
invited guests on September 9.
Public tours will be held from Thursday, September 10, through Saturday, September 26
(excluding Sundays).
The dedication will be held Sunday, October 18, at 10 a.m. (rebroadcast at 2 p.m.). The
dedicatory session will be broadcast to all units in the Montpelier Idaho Temple district.
Idaho is home to more than 482,000 Latter-day Saints meeting in over 1,300
congregations.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple will be the eighth dedicated house of the Lord in the state,
joining temples in Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg and Twin
Falls.
Three additional temples are coming to Idaho. The Teton River Idaho Temple is under
construction, and the Caldwell and Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temples have been
announced.
The Montpelier Idaho Temple was announced in April 2022.
In a recent general conference, President Dallin H. Oaks spoke about God’s plan for His
children, emphasizing the purpose of temples in that plan.
“God’s plan, founded on eternal truth, requires that exaltation can be attained only
through faithfulness to the covenants of an eternal marriage between a man and a
woman in the holy temple, which marriage will ultimately be available to all the faithful,”
he said.
Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ are different from meetinghouses or chapels
where members gather for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a house of
the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism
and other ceremonies that unite families for eternity.
