What a night in New York City! 🎬

On Sept. 30, President Paul and Joellen Maurer joined Montreat College faculty member Dr. William R. Forstchen for the premiere of One Second After, the film adaptation of his New York Times bestselling novel. Seeing One Second After come to life on the big screen was more than a movie premiere. It was a celebration of what can happen when imagination, scholarship, storytelling, and perseverance come together.

We are especially proud that this story began with the work of a member of the Montreat College faculty. At Montreat, our faculty are called not only to teach, but also to create, contribute and influence the world beyond our campus, and this was an extraordinary opportunity to see that impact on a very big screen.
Congratulations, Dr. Forstchen, and congratulations to the filmmakers, cast and everyone who helped bring One Second After to life.
The film is planned for release in 2027. Stay tuned for more!

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 lives were taken in a tragedy that changed our nation forever.

Today, we remember not only that number, but the people behind it — sons and daughters, parents and spouses, friends and neighbors whose absence is still deeply felt.

We also remember the courage shown in the hours and days that followed: first responders running toward danger, strangers helping strangers, and communities coming together in the midst of unimaginable loss.

At Montreat College, we pause today with gratitude, sorrow, and remembrance. May we never lose sight of the value of every life, the strength found in unity, and the responsibility we have to care for one another.

We will never forget.

Montreat senior Nick Abramov spent his summer combining faith, creativity, and technology through a UI/UX design internship with YouVersion, the ministry behind the Bible App. 📱

From Bible.com to an Android Auto Bible experience, Nick used the skills he’s building in Montreat’s VCXD program to design with purpose.
