🥜 Peanut Maturity Update last night. Thanks to Dr. Scott Monfort for taking time yesterday evening to speak to our group. Dr. Monfort discussed the status of the peanut crop across South Georgia, an update on varieties and management, diseases, insect pests, as well as addressing questions from local growers.

🥜 Georgia Peanut Achievement Awards

Fifteen farm families were recently announced by the University of Georgia Peanut Team for their high yielding peanuts in 2025. The high yields ranged from 4,156 to 6,794 pounds per acre.

Congratulations to Jimmy Webb of Calhoun County, with 5,731 pounds per acre in the 700-plus acreage category!

New World Screwworm has not been detected in Georgia, but livestock and pet owners should remain vigilant following a recent detection in Zavala County, TX.

Monitor animals for signs of infestation, including non-healing wounds, unusual discharge, or maggots in wounds.

Suspected cases should be reported immediately to the Georgia Department of Agriculture's Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected].

💧Mobile Irrigation Lab Center Pivot Uniformity Tests

Last week, UGA Extension Calhoun County worked with the UGA Water Team to conduct two Mobile Irrigation Lab tests on center pivots here in Calhoun County.

These tests help evaluate how uniformly and efficiently a pivot is applying water across the field. Good irrigation uniformity matters because it helps growers make better irrigation decisions, reduce wasted water, improve crop performance, and identify potential issues such as worn nozzles, pressure problems, leaks, or uneven application patterns.

A big thank you to the UGA Water Team for coming down and helping provide this valuable service to our local growers.

If you have a center pivot and would like to have it tested, please reach out to the UGA Extension Calhoun County office. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your irrigation system and make sure it is operating as efficiently as possible.
