Kanawha County Schools made a significant investment in its teachers. Fifty of them earned master's degrees in Literacy Education at WVU, graduating this spring with new skills and a Reading Specialist Certification they're already putting to work.
The results are showing up in classrooms across the county, from special education resource rooms to high school AP Literature to elementary libraries.

When the College of Applied Human Sciences partnered with Kanawha County Schools to bring a cohort of teachers into the online Master's in Literacy Education program, the goal was clear: improve reading literacy across the county and make a lasting impact. This weekend, that cohort of teachers graduated with a Master's in Literacy Education from WVU. The teachers did the work. The partnership held up its end. Now those classrooms have something more to offer.
