West Virginia University Department of Political Science Established in 1896, our department is housed in Woodburn Hall located in the historic center of WVU’s downtown campus. degrees in Political Science. and Ph.D.

One of the largest and most vibrant departments in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Political Science offers a comprehensive array of courses and learning opportunities leading to the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. Some of the highlights of its academic programs and learning opportunities beyond the classroom are:

On Friday, Sept. 29 at noon WVU Campus & Community life is hosting a memorial bell-ringing ceremony in Oglebay Plaza in remembrance of WVU students including our own Brady Zelmore.

Internship in WV State Senate. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 5pm in Woodburn 306E, Senate staffers will discuss the Herndon Internship-a semester long internship in which students do professional work and receive up to 12 hours of credit. Students are placed with a Senate committee during the legislative session and conduct research and perform other professional tasks, gaining experience. Students are then placed in a state agency after the legislative session ends. Any students who are interested in the internship are welcome to attend.

The WV State Senate will be accepting applications for the Herndon Internship for the Spring 2024 semester. Herndon Intern earn up to 12 credit hours, working in a Senate Committee performing professional work during the Senate’s session. Interns then are placed with a state agency after the session is over. This is a semester long internship and students receive a $5200 stipend. WVU usually places about two students in these positions each year. Legislative staff will be visiting campus on Sept. 26. Any students interested in learning about the program, and meeting with the staff, can contact Professor MacDonald at [email protected].
