Faculty Feature Friday: Dr. P. Joy Maramba

Dr. Maramba, DNP, RN, CNE, has been a nursing educator for nearly three decades.

"I make no secret about my not being a particularly strong student and because of that, I can appreciate that there is not a one size fits all approach to teaching and learning. I try to meet students where they are and explain concepts in ways that help them understand."

Dr. P. Joy Maramba, DNP, RN, CNE, a nursing educator for nearly three decades, got her first taste of teaching earlier in her career than most.

Congratulations, Dr. Wiggins! πŸ₯³

National champions AND nursing students? These Mountaineers can do it all! πŸ’›πŸ’™

Zara Atcheson, Rylie Berzinski, and Autumn Hurst recently competed at the National Dance Alliance and National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.

And the results were incredible! πŸŽ‰
πŸ† Rylie and the WVU Dance Team brought home the Division IA Pom National Championship title.
πŸ₯ˆ Zara and the WVU Hip Hop Dance Team earned second place in the D1A Hip Hop Division.
⭐ Autumn and the WVU Competitive Cheer Team earned fifth place in the All-Girl D1A Division.

Autumn encourages fellow nursing students to make time for passions outside of nursing: β€œEven though nursing requires continuous commitment and dedication, it is important to have outlets that help take your mind off things! Do what you love, so you can love what you do in all things!”

We are so proud of these students for representing WVU with talent, determination, and Mountaineer spirit!

We recently hosted our 2026 Scholarship Luncheon at the Erickson Alumni Center, bringing together scholarship recipients and donors for an afternoon of connection, gratitude, and a savory lunch.

β€œThe generosity of our donors lifts financial burdens and other barriers our students face so that they can fully focus on their education,” said Dean Tara Hulsey.

During the event, students Laci Sears and Briana Janice Gradie shared how scholarships have positively impacted their educational journeys and helped them pursue their goals in nursing.

β€œBecause donors chose to invest in students like me, I was able to reduce my work hours and focus more on my education,” Laci shared.

β€œIt helps a lot, not just financially but for stability, to give me a chance to breathe and to feel recognized for the effort I’m putting into something,” Briana added.

We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who continue to invest in the future of nursing and to the outstanding students whose dedication inspires us every day.

Congratulations to all scholarship recipients and thank you to our donors for making these opportunities possible. πŸ’›πŸ’™
