Kicking off LARC’er of the week with Dallas native and freshman, Kaira Lay! She goes by Scout and is interested in investigating the boundaries between natural and civil environments.

New to the area, Scout has mentioned that while Dallas has several cultural/art districts that add character and revitalize the city, Morgantown is more condensed in developed areas. “This really helps to cut down on urban sprawl and get the community engaged in one place.” Going even further with this concept, Scout mentioned that if there’s one thing she could change about our campus, it would be to reduce concrete hot beds and enhance/protect green space. She is also an athlete on the rowing team, and takes a liking to folk music of Appalachia. “I’m still learning and exploring the area. I’m looking forward to learning about native plants and am keeping my options open for the future.” LARC certainly is the profession for broad horizons.

Larson Design Group worked with the City and Urban Landscape Comm. to finalize a redevelopment of the Public Safety Building Plaza in Morgantown, WV. The statue that is displayed is of Zaquill Morgan, founder of Morgantown. Design incorporates native planting, public green space/seating area, and low-energy lighting.

With a design that integrates architecture, interior design, structural engineering, and sustainability, the FBI Biometric Technology Center functions as a high performance workplace for approximately 1,300 employees. The 375,000-square-foot, modular building holds three office floors on an elevated podium that contains the building entry, data center, and other facilities. Partially embedded in an earthen berm, the podium provides security and thermal stability for the data center inside. Sustainable features of the LEED Gold-certified center include native plant landscaping with high efficiency irrigation and an underfloor pressurized mechanical distribution system.
